Not your ordinary family
It's nine pm on a friday and Bucky is sitting at their kitchen table watching a tiny vampire girl make a mess of blood and plastic on the floor with something between amusement and complete bafflement. He had found Mavis sitting outside in the alley behind the bar when he got there and he had turned and come right back home with her. He hadn't even known she was a vampire- well.. half vampire? At least not until she sank her fangs into his finger.
He should have called Steve, and he wanted to, but Steve was working on a big case and the distraction could wait until it was over. He had his chin on his hand, ignoring the mess she was making and just watching her. What was he supposed to do with a tiny vampire girl?
"Steve, when the hell are you getting home?"

All of that was written in shorthand in his files, but he liked to have a more thorough copy typed up since that was easier to reference and share, if needed. Once he wrapped that up, he locked up his files, his office, then made sure the building itself was secure before he headed home.
The trip home was completely uneventful, which was always a good thing where the City was concerned. He turned the key in the lock and walked into the apartment. After closing the door and locking it, he set his briefcase down and followed the light into the kitchen.
A little girl on the floor with blood everywhere wasn't what he expected to see. Ever. For a moment, he simply stared, before finally glancing to Bucky while pointing at the child. "What?" Full sentences, complete thoughts? Completely unnecessary right now.

"She was hungry..."

That didn't leave him any less confused, though. "Where did you find her?" He gave the other another glance before kneeling down and offering Mavis a smile. He was taken in already. Kids were one of his weaknesses.
